Losing Motivation
Author: LJ

I’ve hit a lot of milestones lately; 100 days without any soda, 10 pounds lost and finishing a 5k. So why all of the sudden am I totally losing motivation?
Over the past couple of days, while I’ve kept up my workout routine, my eating habits have been down right shameful. I’ve eaten so much sugar, I haven’t really had a good balanced meal, I haven’t really had breakfast and my fruit and veggie intake has dwindled significantly. Plus, I haven’t really blogged much if you hadn’t noticed!
Why is it that every time I’m really making progress my mind goes crazy, my motivation fades and I just stop? Well, I’m not going to stop this time, I’ll eat a good lunch and dinner today and there is a banana on my desk. But I feel like even though I haven’t gained any weight back, the past few days have really set me back. Grrrrrr.
I’ll get my motivation back.

Flabulous Deal of the Week 4-21-08
I’ve found that the best way to enjoy a workout is with music, and of course, what’s better to fill that need than an iPod. I use mine EVERY time I workout. It just helps speed things along and pump me up. Don’t have an iPod or need a new one, there are all new iPods at MacConnection.
MacConnection has every size iPod you could possibly want, and their new colors are great. Mine is the pink one, it’s to die for!
And right now at MacConnection get FREE SHIPPING on orders of $99 or more - ends 4/30.
Our First 5k
Author: LJ

As you know, if you read Flabulous, that this weekend was our first 5k. KJ and I did it!
After a night of our nerves running a bit wild, we got off to a bit rocky start, but no matter, we did it! We were running with other 5k’ers, marathon racers and half marathon racers. We might not have been as fast as them (hey they are pro’s!) but we did an incredible job.
It was so exciting to see so many people and have perfect strangers cheering us on. It was a perfect day with sun, but shade and a little wind. We got 5k t-shirts and free red bulls and water.
The best part was the end. We ran across the finish line and our SO’s were up on a bridge yelling our names, there just for us. It was a really cool experience that we’ve both decided we HAVE to do again. But why wait until next year? We’re going to find several 5k’s over the next few months, (and on and on), and just spend it perfecting our time.
If you’ve never done a 5k race, you really have to. It’s just a totally different experience. For get about weight, what can you DO?
Pre-Race Jitters

So tomorrow is the big race. We are going to be running with marathoners, half-marathoners, hard core bicyclists and, well, us lil’ 5k racers.
I don’t know about KJ but I have some pre-race jitters. Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally excited for this race, and I know I can do it. Heck, we’ve been walking 5 miles for a few weeks now and a 5k is only about 3.25 miles! Figuring out how to get there and where to go and getting my chip on right and not getting in anyones way, it’s a bit scary. But I really am excited.
Tonight is a prep night. I’m going to save my legs, pluck whatever needs to be plucked, try on my race outfit to make sure everything is smooth, get the chip on my shoe, plan my healthy breakfast, eat my carb dinner (it’s what the racers do!) and set a few alarms to make sure we get there on time.
Basically, I’m treating tonight like I’m getting ready for a date. Is it necessary? Maybe not. I just want to be as relaxed, ready and comfortable as possible to keep this a great experience!
Oh, and by the way, KJ’s knee and my knee and thigh are feeling much better, if not totally cured. Wish us luck ya’ll!
5k Road Blocks
Author: LJ

Doesn’t it suck when you are trying to eat healthy and you are trying to work out and you are getting really excited for your progress and then you hit a road block? Well that’s what has sort of happened to me and KJ over the weekend.
See, as I’ve said before we’ve been training really hard for our upcoming 5k, it’s this Saturday. So of course what happens? We BOTH are suddenly struck with knee injuries. I got mine when I was doing some workout videos from Jillian Michaels from The Biggest Loser, cardio kick boxing and getting up and down and up and down for the strength training workout. KJ got hers after a hefty 5 mile workout. She hyper extended it while standing in line after the walk.
What are 2 girls doing a 5k on Saturday to do? I guess our plan is lots of icing the knee’s, not pushing ourselves with anything to do with knee’s, knee wraps, resting and Advil. Hopefully we’ll be feeling better by Saturday because frankly, we’re doing that 5k even if we have to crawl across the finish line! And as we all know, road blocks were made to be pummeled through.
Update: I’ve also pulled my inner thigh muscle which is really painful. Still, we’re going to do it!

100 Days Without Soda

This is sort of a great week for me health-wise. I finally lost 10 pounds and now, another milestone. As I said previously in my intro post, I’m a soda addict that has quit. I love the way almost all sodas taste, I love the sugar, I love the bubbles, I love the way it feels going down my throat, I just love it. Or should I say loveD?
I can now use love as a past tense word because today marks my 100th day without soda! I can’t believe I made it this far but I have and I’m going to have to believe it. Should I go out and celebrate with a soda? Just kidding! That would be grossly wrong. But I AM going to celebrate.
I was such an addict to the sugar and caffine that the first week I quit I had headaches, I was tired and I was grumpy. I couldn’t even look at a soda can without drooling. Now a-days, while I might want one every now and then, the intolerable cravings have gone away and I can control myself and say “I don’t need or want that.”
Even though it’s been 100 days and what I think is a milestone I still have to work at it you know? When I was 17 I quit soda for an entire year. Then the 4th of July came. You are thinking “so what?” right? Well on that day it was really hot, I was with all my friends, there was lots of bad food and my stupid friends (no longer friends) encouraged me to drink a soda and like a stupid little girl I did.
Basically what I’m saying is, as silly as it sounds, no matter how long I go without soda I have to keep on actively trying to stay away from it. I think it’s going to be a bit easier this time around because I’m not just dropping soda, I’m living a healthier lifestyle all around and seeing great results, so that’s a good incentive.
No soda for 100 days. Man does that feel good!
Finally Lost 10
Author: LJ

I’ve finally hit 10 pounds lost! For a little over 2 weeks I’ve been hovering around 8 pounds and it’s been killing me. Granted I haven’t been the perfect picture of health, but I’ve been working through it and it’s finally paying off with a 10 pound loss on the scale.
In the grand scheme of things, 10 pounds isn’t really that much. I mean, I want to lose like 80 pounds. But this just means I’m 1/8 of the way there. Also as I’ve said in previous posts I feel a little lighter, I have more energy, my fitness level has greatly increased and I’m sleeping better. So who says 10 pounds isn’t much?
Go me!
Happy Birthday to my Love!
Author: LJ

Happy Birthday my love!
If you hadn’t noticed to day is my husbands birthday. I just had to log in and wish him the best birthday ever! I made Limonchello cupcakes to celebrate yesterday. You know, portion control. I like to call them Lemony Snicket cupcakes and boy are they good.
Anyway, I thought now would be as good a time as any to thank my love for all the support he’s given me through my journey so far and give him a pat on the back for all the progress he’s made himself so far. It’s amazing how different things can be with a healthy support system!
Happy Birthday!!!
Scale Hell
Author: LJ

Just a vent. Most of the time I hate the scale. It’s just such a numbers game and any little thing can throw you off, thus scale hell. That’s why, even though I was supposed to weigh in, for my weekly weigh in on Sunday, I just couldn’t.
It’s been hard lately with just life in general getting in the way to plan out all my healthy meals and take the time to work out. I just couldn’t even stand to pull out the old scale let alone stand on it. I was too scared that not only wouldn’t I have lost, but I might have gained!
Sure I’ll get back on the scale this coming Sunday, but man, isn’t it okay to skip a week once in a blue moon?
